Sd07 UI logo.More than 200 UI students designed, built and contributed to a zero-energy, solar-powered home as part of the 2007 Solar Decathlon competition. The house was on public display on the national mall in Washington, D.C., from Oct. 12-20, 2007, and the UI team competed there against 19 other universities from around the world. The UI team won two of the ten contests and finished ninth overall. Take a look at the 2007 UI team’s Web site at www.comm.uiuc.edu/solardecathlon for details and photos.

Whether you have the chance to visit the house in person or online, please add your comments and questions here. We’d love to hear from you!

IN WASHINGTON: It’s October 4, and the Illinois team has made it to the mall! After a midnight start time on Oct. 2, assembly took the team well into the next morning. As you can see in this photo, the Illinois students are exhausted. Too bad they couldn’t find softer accommodations!

What a great looking house! One of my favorites. I would love to see some more pictures of the system used to set the house up. It sounded very innovative.

Go Illini! I visited the house this weekend and think you did a fantastic job! It’s a very livable space and the modular design makes for an array of design options. Good luck with the rest of the competition.

Hi, I’m a student at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. I spent a year at Southern Illinois U. and visited Illinois U. while I was there. My teacher gave us this project to pick a team to win the comp. and I picked your team! I’m excited to see your design and you looked like you’ve worked hard on the project just from looking at the picture above. I wish you luck in the competition, hope to see you continue your success with a victory on the 19th! Go Illini
